Personal Reflection
By Joy Rivera
The Word that was preached last Sunday was really a challenge for me - "Building a godly character in an ungodly world" (2 Peter 1:3-11).
As a home-maker, a wife, and now as a mom, everyday is a personal choice to be spiritual. At any given day, no matter how good things are, something unpleasant can happen. Whether it is a mistake someone else made, a weakness you see or be in situations that can confuse, annoy or irritate you. There is a natural human tendency to give in to anger, bitterness, feud and other acts of unspirituality. The world is indeed ungodly. So, I always remind myself to take God's presence with me all through the day- to talk to Him frequently in prayer and to listen to His quiet voice in the Bible.
I am blessed with a wonderful family of my own now. Blessed with the gift of life and salvation! There are so many reasons to love, to laugh and to celebrate life. I am seeing my faith in The Lord grow, becoming visible through my ways in keeping the bond of peace and love strong in my home and in my relationships. I depend on the Holy Spirit to fill me, empower me and transform my thoughts and behavior that despite the ungodly world I am in, I choose to bring glory and honor to Jesus.
The sermon last Sunday is a reminder to all of us to make spirituality a way of life. To magnify godliness in us. To always remind ourselves to act in faith, goodness, self control, perseverance and love.
