Shifting Minds

For some reason, last Sundays preaching reminded me of children and magic. Have you ever seen a child not fascinated by magic shows? This is because children understand the world through magical thinking. In a young child’s mind, it is very possible that magic exists. Just as it is also very possible that there is rain because the angels in heaven are crying. As the child grows, the mind evolves to be governed by the logical rule. The shift from child to adult is not just marked by physical changes but more importantly by cognitive changes. Through each experience, the child discards and creates new ideas about how the world around him works. Once an idea finds meaning, it becomes truth to them, and will insist that the world listen and will not stop short of questioning the world if their ideas and truths are not heard.

Our kids – the next generation of preachers, lawyers, politicians, teachers, pastors, doctors…. As parents, we have a huge and exciting responsibility to help groom them and shape them into who they will be as they grow up - physically, emotionally and most of all spiritually. Parents with kids would know that this is easier said than done, but it is a journey that one must commit to travel, not entirely on their own, but with a lot of help and guidance from God and full reliance on what He can do through them.
