WIN-SQ : Who is Holding your Hands?
Who is Holding your Hands?
By Manju Bharwani Yu (July 22)

“The world is no longer safe for our children” according to Pastor Butch Yu in his sermon last Sunday. We, as parents worry about the influences they face each day in school and even at home, but it does not stop us from consciously trying to protect our children from the threats and dangers of the world. Like as it was in the case of a small boy, in IMM one Saturday afternoon. While I was on my way up the escalator, I was taken aback all of a sudden when I heard a three-year old boy screamed. I saw the boy’s shoes caught in the blade of the escalator and in a split second, the mother’s protective instinct immediately pulled the boy up to safety. It sent shiver down my spine, because I could only imagine the worse if that mother was not holding his son at that time; it was indeed a good thing that she was. How much more it is with our God. Who, in His loving kindness holds us securely. Jesus, in the gospel of John tells us; “My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.” (10:29).
Many times it is not an easy road for many of us. Life as we see it, day to day, is hard and stressful. We get sick, we face danger all the time, but one thing is always assuring, that God’s hands are strong, secure, safe, satisfying and One Who shapes our life. Pastor Butch mentioned five things to help us understand that there is no better place to be than in God’s Hands.
God’s hands are strong, powerful and mighty. I want to be held by the hands that made the Universe. “By His hands, God laid the foundation of the earth.”1 I don’t know about you, but for me I would trust and hold on to the One Who made the heavens and the earth; the One whose stars are still shinning even after billion of years have passed. This is the God who knows my name, knows the number of my hair, and knows my deepest thoughts and secrets. He is the God whose hands I want to hold.

God’s hands are secure. Psalms 18:16 says, “He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.” The Bible is filled with accounts of supernatural interventions God for His people. He has demonstrated time and time again that He is able to intervene and keep us secure. If people say that cats have nine lives, I can’t count the numerous instances that God literally saved me out from danger. God has promised to be with us. He has been and will always remain faithful to His Word. And when He says, "I will never leave you, nor forsake you," we can be assured that that is precisely what He’ll do.
God’s hands are safe. “My times are in your hands.”2 Whatever may happen in our lives now and in the future, we have the confidence knowing we are safe in God’s hands. He has our best interest in mind, even in hard times. More than earthly danger, we are safe from eternal threats. The scarred nailed hands of Jesus will keep His children safe from the clutches of the devil who wants to claim us as his own for eternity. No one, and nothing can snatch us out from the hands of God.
God’s hands satisfy. "You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing.” 3 We need to be in total dependence on God and commit our concerns in God’s hands, because He alone can give us satisfaction. The world can only offer temporal satisfaction, but God has set for us eternal, never ending happiness. There is no better place to be than in God’s Sovereign hands, where His promises and plans are fulfilled in our lives. As the old song says, “He satisfies, He satisfies, He satisfies my desires.”
God’s hands also shape our life. I want to be in the hands that will do me no harm. Just like the clay to a potter, who shapes the clay to perfection. We should be positive when God shapes our life. God’s disciplines form us into the person He wants us to be. No one is mature, or so perfect that he does not need a potter. Therefore, when the Lord shapes us, we should be encouraged and not discouraged.
As you walk your personal road today, take thought of the strong, secure, safe, satisfying hands of God and the One who also shapes our lives in making us more like Jesus each day. He is the One who holds your hands. His grip is not as such that you will slip through His grasp. His faithfulness is not as such that He will not remain beside you every step of the way. And none of us walk our paths alone. He is indeed a great and awesome God.
If you were to draw a picture of God's hands, what would it look like? You may draw it big or small…yellow or red, young or old, but as for me no matter the size, shape or texture; I know I am in the hands of the Almighty and loving God. How about you, who is holding your hands?
