WIN-SQ : Hide and Seek!
Hide and Seek!
(A Reflection on Psalms 139)
By Manju B. Yu.

Do you believe that God not only loves you, but knows where you are and what you're doing every minute of the day? Do not even think for a moment that God doesn’t see you. Everywhere you turn, every step you take; God knows where you are. But why is it that even we know this to be a true; we still play the game of Hide and Seek with our Maker? What are you hiding? Others may search and fail to find - but the eyes of God is everywhere and neither the smallest goodness nor the least evil will lie unnoticed or remain unfound by Him!
In the sermon last Sunday shared by Pastor Edwin Hernandez in his catchy title ‘Search Warrant,’ somehow gave me the idea that like in a detective story, God can search me through and through, every point of my being, from side to side, God knows me. But you see, in God’s case, He does not need a warrant to do that, because he is the Judge and He is our Maker; He has every right to find out what we’re up to. He already knows everything about us. However, the image was given to help us remember that God knows every cranny and crack of our lives. Needless for us to play Hide and Seek with Him who knows us full well.
C.H Spurgeon puts it in this way; “A good man will not wish to be hidden by the darkness, a wise man will not expect any such thing. If we were so foolish as to make sure of concealment because the place was shrouded in midnight, we might well be alarmed out of our security by the fact that, as far as God is concerned, we always dwell in the light; for even the night itself glows with a revealing force. Let us think of this; if ever we are tempted to take license from the dark—it is light about us.”1 A heathen philosopher once asked, "Where is God?" The Christian answered, "Let me first ask you, Where is he not?"2 My God is everywhere and He knows all.

So friends, it is pointless to play Hide and Seek with our Maker. The fact is, we are already found. God knows our thoughts. He sees beyond the act to the intention of our heart “you perceive my thoughts...’ God knows not just what we do but why we do it! God knows us by day and by night. God is with us; He is beside us and He is watching over us.
It is unimaginable even to realize that the mystery of God’s perfect knowledge is focus on me. “Why is He mindful of me?” He loves me and He loves you. Therefore, Gratitude should be the first and foremost reaction to God’s knowledge and wisdom, because there is no kind thought or good action is hidden from him or will remain unrewarded by Him. But on the other hand, we need to stand in FEAR, because He knows everything in our lives, what is hidden cannot be hidden from Him. He is a holy God and a just God Who hates sin. We need to repent before God. When we confess to God our sins it is not because He needs to know - it is for our sake, not His. God offers us instant, free and absolute pardon through His Son Jesus Christ. Forgiveness is granted not merely to the best of us but to the worst of us: a sinner just like me.
Do not take lightly the challenge last Sunday by Pastor Edwin. Let us provide God the search warrants ourselves. Allow God to search us. There is indeed no one more qualified to turn over our life than the one Who knows us full well.
As the old hymn goes to my thoughts in absolute worship: “Who is like unto Thee? Oh Lord among the gods… Who is like unto thee? Glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders. Who is like unto Thee?
